Master’s Class – Room 304
The young and the not-so-young make up this active class. The International Sunday School Series is used with various members facilitating the lesson and the lively discussion that is always a part of the lesson. We have monthly socials and two fundraisers each year. With our funds, we support a child in Vietnam, give to UMCOR for emergency relief, and make it possible for three children in Honduras to attend school there. Our class is a caring and nurturing group of people who love each other and love the Lord.
Good News Fellowship Class – Room 206
This class uses several study guides and members rotate teaching duties. We support each other through prayer, fellowship, and love. Class members are active participants in all the church-wide ministries.
UNITED METHODIST MEN
These dedicated men work very hard in projects ranging from selling onions, providing a ‘roasted pig’ meal for the whole church, to having fish fries with fish they have caught on their fishing trips. The funds raised with these projects are used for various needs of the church.
They sponsor the Boy Scout troop that meets at the church, fund some scholarships for the children in Honduras, help pay for retreats for our youth, and help fund “Marvelous Mondays”, which is an outing for our children during the summer.
United Methodist Men meet 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM for dinner and meeting.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The United Methodist Women is a community of women who nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth, seasonal leadership, and transformation. Their purpose is to:
1. Know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ.
2. Develop a creative, supportive fellowship.
3. To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
The local unit at Martinez UMC has contributed to the following missions during the last year: UMCOR, New Bethlehem Center, Mission Society (to support two missionaries), Murphy-Harpst School, and the Red Bud Mission. In addition to the above the unit awarded a college scholarship to one graduating senior.
Meetings are held each month on third Sunday, in the fellowship hall, serving lunch, a short program, a business report, and plan mission money projects. We have a Spring Rummage Sale and Fall Yard Sale. All ladies are welcome.
