McDonald Bible Class – Room 303 – Older Adults
This class uses the International Sunday School Series and various members of the class rotate teaching duties. Interesting class discussions, monthly dinner meetings, a close-knit caring group, and strong support for the church are some of the characteristics of this class.
Master’s Class – Room 306
The young and the not-so-young make up this active class. The International Sunday School Series is used with various members facilitating the lesson and the lively discussion that is always a part of the lesson. We have monthly socials and two fund raisers each year. With our funds, we support a child in Vietnam, give to UMCOR for emergency relief, and make it possible for three children in Honduras to attend school there. Our class is a caring and nurturing group of people who love each other and love the Lord.
Good News Fellowship Class – Room 206
This class uses several study guides and members rotate teaching duties. We support each other through prayer, fellowship, and love. Class members are active participants in all the church-wide ministries.
B.I.B.L.E. Class – Room 104
B.I.B.L.E. is the acronym for “Basics in Bible Lessons for Everyone.” We have a diverse group of class members, men and women who range in ages from 40 to 60 plus, but we welcome new members of any age. We have a designated teacher who leads the group using the Adult Bible Study series. However, our informal setting encourages individual discussion and sharing of ideas and knowledge. We actively participate in church missions and projects.
New Beginnings Class – Room 301
The Beginnings class is just that, a class for people new or not-so-new to the church. The class expresses our “no pressure” approach to Sunday school membership and attendance. Our teachers are as diverse as our members. Participants range from high school age to retirement age – age makes no difference. Our forum encourages discussion and sharing of ideas, feelings, thoughts, and questions. Everyone who has a voice will be heard.
We are a group of young adults and couples that discuss the bible, life, and how the two are connected. We invite you to joint in our class and enjoy fellowship and new friendships.
UNITED METHODIST MEN
These dedicated men work very hard in projects ranging from selling onions, selling Christmas trees, providing a ‘roasted pig’ meal for the whole church, to having fish fries with fish they have caught on their fishing trips. The funds raised with these projects are used for various needs of the church.
They provide scholarships to our Preschool, sponsor the Boy Scout troop that meets at the church, fund some scholarships for the children in Honduras, help pay for retreats for our youth, and help fund “Marvelous Mondays”, which is an outing for our children during the summer.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The United Methodist Women is a community of women who nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth, seasonal leadership, and transformation. Their purpose is to:
1. Know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ.
2. Develop a creative, supportive fellowship.
3. To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
The local unit at Martinez UMC has contributed to the following missions during the last year: UMCOR, New Bethlehem Center, Mission Society (to support two missionaries), Murphy-Harpst School, and the Red Bud Mission. In addition to the above the unit awarded a college scholarship to one graduating senior.
Meetings are held each month on third Sunday, in the fellowship hall, serving lunch, a short program, a business report, and plan mission money projects. We have a Spring Rummage Sale, Fall Yard Sale, December Wreath Making. All ladies are welcome.
It's a Good Place to Be.
